Superintendent's Message

Can you believe another year has come and gone here in the Streetsboro City Schools?  This year seemed to fly by at light speed and much progress has been made in the district.   Most noticeably, our facilities project is well under way with both the new high school and elementary additions and renovations being more than 65% complete.  We are well on target to have both projects completed by Mid-December with a move-in date of the first week in January.  It is so exciting to think our current high school students will move into a brand-new, state-of-the-art high school in January 2017!  This new high school will come complete with a beautiful 800 seat auditorium, two story STEM lab, radio station, television station, a large open media center and a large student dining area that will serve as a community gathering point for productions and athletic events.  This new facility will certainly turn some heads!

At the new Streetsboro Elementary School, all of our Pre-K to Grade 3 students will enjoy an entirely new building; complete with a redesigned student dining area, new office, all new classroom spaces, extended learning areas, many small group rooms and two new playgrounds.  When the building officially opens in January 2017, students and families will be amazed to see all of the new and renovated spaces.  While students in grades two and three will move into their new rooms this August, students currently at Wait primary will move into their new classrooms in January.  There will be more information regarding these exciting moves in August when school begins.

As residents drive by the new high school site, they will see a new stadium being built.  We officially broke ground on the stadium in the third week of May and the field, track, bleachers, press box and score board will be completed by November.  This will enable us to hold our first track meet in over ten years at the high school in April, 2017.  What an exciting event for our community and athletes!

Many great things occurred this year academically in the district.  For the first time in recent history, the school district received all “A’s” in the academic areas of our district report card.  Because of this exciting achievement, the district was one of 50 districts in the State of Ohio to win the first annual Momentum Award!  This award was presented to the district by the State Board of Education in May and both Senator John Glenn and Senator Eklund wrote letters to the district recognizing this honor and other achievements!  Congratulations to our entire district staff, students and community on such a prestigious recognition!

In closing, I want to thank the staff, students, parents and community for helping make this such a successful and memorable year here in the Streetsboro City School District.  We need to continue to work together to make the Streetsboro City Schools a destination in Northern Ohio.  I believe we are well on our way to achieving this goal.

Have a safe and relaxing summer with family and friends and I look forward to seeing everyone in August.  Go Rockets!
