R. Michael Daulbaugh, Superintendent
As superintendent of the Streetsboro City Schools, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome back all of our students, student athletes and families. It is an exciting time to be a Streetsboro Rocket and once again this year we look to enjoy strong and talented athletic teams representing our school district and fully expect to have our best year academically for all students.
Over the past three years, our students, staff and community members have been a part of a historical building project. Thanks to the generous support of our community, in January we proudly opened a brand new, 119,000 square foot state-of-the-art high school. The new high school is absolutely gorgeous and features an 800 seat auditorium, large gymnasium, radio station, television station, and a large two room, two story STEM Lab. The building is also designed to focus on collaboration by the use of flexible furniture and large extended learning areas where students and classes can meet and collaborate on projects. The new Streetsboro High School has received a lot of positive attention for its design and LEED Silver status. It certainly is the “crown jewel” of our community.
Also in January 2017 we completed and opened the all new Streetsboro Elementary School which houses grades Pre-K to grade three. This building, once known as Campus Elementary School, was completely gutted and three wings were added to the existing structure. The end result is a beautiful, state-of-the-art building where 21st century learning can take place. The building is designed to focus on collaboration by the use of flexible furniture and large extended learning areas where students and classes can meet and collaborate on projects. This building is also LEED Silver and impresses anyone who tours the building.
As a part of this 69 million dollar, co-funded project, the voters approved two LFI projects (local funded initiatives); an 800 seat auditorium at the new high school and a brand new stadium complex. The first phase of the stadium project was completed in time for our track athletes to participate in our first home track meet in over 15 years during March of 2017. Our middle school track athletes also participated in their first home track meet in over 20 years! It was quite a celebration!
This summer the final phase of the stadium project was completed and this fall our football, cheerleaders, soccer teams and band will open a brand new stadium complete with a turf field, 8 lane track, an 8000 square foot field house, home and visitor concession stands, a video board, and new baseball and softball fields. The stadium complex is tucked into a hillside of trees and is breathtaking.
The final phase of our building project, a new middle school on the site of our old high school, is well underway and on target to be completed by June, 2018. This new middle school will house grades 6 through grade 8 and has been designed to promote 21st century learning. The middle school will also have features which promote collaboration and the building will be LEED Silver when completed.
In the Streetsboro City School District, students have many opportunities to participate in our outstanding athletic and extra-curricular programs. However, it is to be noted that all students are expected to put academics first. All students are encouraged to take advantage of their four years in high school in order to prepare for college, a career or the military. Without a strong commitment to academics, students will not have the opportunity to participate in athletics or other extra-curricular opportunites. To this end, we are extremely proud of the academic accomplishments of all students in Streetsboro. Students continue to show us through their performance the positive commitment made to academics. Well done!
