Official Statement from the Board of Education

UDATED April 24 at 1:35 PM

The Streetsboro School community is shocked and saddened over the death of Caleb Lishing.

Caleb was a well-liked student by his peers and teachers and loved coming to school each day. He was gentle soul who loved to read and talk to the adults around him. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they work through this tragic situation.

Currently, We have over 20 grief counselors on sight from Coleman Center, Towne Hall, Children’s Advantage, Aurora, Crestwood, Hudson and Kent to help students and staff deal with this loss.

Counselors will be available tonight at Henry Defer Intermediate School from 4-8 to talk with students and will have informational packets for parents about how to talk to their children about this loss and how to recognize warning signs in children.

When to Seek Help for Depression in Children

Get Help for Depression & Children

Most children feel sad and low every once in a while, but these feelings usually pass in a few days. Untreated depression, however, lasts for a long time and interferes with day-to-day activity.

Children who are depressed may complain of feeling sick, refuse to go to school, cling to a parent or caregiver, or worry excessively that a parent may die. Older children may sulk, get into trouble, be negative or grouchy, or feel misunderstood. Youth are more likely to respond to treatment if they receive it early in the course of their illness.

24-Hour Crisis Hotline

24 hour crisis lines are available to help in a mental health crisis, answer questions and concerns, and to schedule appointments with a mental health professional. Call 330.296.3555 for Coleman or 330.678.4357 for Townhall II, or text 4hope to 741 741.

Walk Out 2018 Panorama National Walkout Day 2018 to End Gun Violence

Statement from Superintendent Mike Daulbaugh

If there was ever any doubt regarding the class and integrity of our students, there shouldn’t be now. I just had the honor of standing by our students as they honored the seventeen victims of the Parkland Florida tragedy. Under the direction and planning of the student leadership team, students departed the school in a silent and orderly fashion and walked to the stadium.

After all participants were in the stadium, the student leadership team read the name and released a balloon for each of the victims from Parkland tragedy. After all names were read, all students locked arms and stood in silence for seventeen minutes to honor them. With wind chills below zero and snowing fiercely, the students remained quiet and reverent without moving.

As a superintendent, I could not be more proud of our students for the statement they made today. I was personally moved at the maturity and respect our students demonstrated today.

Also, I would like to thank the Streetsboro Police Department for sending cruisers to block off all access to the back part of the high school so that our students could protest in peace.

I would also like to thank the high school administration and guidance department for helping our students make such a powerful and positive statement.

WE HAVE THE BEST KIDS IN STREETSBORO. This community should be proud of our students!

S'boro students presenting at the annual AC4P Summit SHS hosts the Northeast Ohio AC4P Summit!

Streetsboro High School was fortunate enough to host the Northeast Ohio Summit for Actively Caring 4 People on Wednesday, Nov. 8.     SCPTA contributed more than their fair share by providing lunch to students and adults from 11 schools – a total of 127 people were on hand.

Actively Caring 4 People is the premier positive school climate initiative in our country.  SHS has been involved in this initiative for three years, now, thanks to Mr. Campbell.  Hosting this annual summit was a very big deal for our school and our students.  Adults and students from Mentor, Burkshire, Crestview, Rootstown, Waterloo, Windham, Garfield, Hudson and a few other schools enjoyed their day of meaningful activities and discussion.  Students exchanged ideas for student-led activities that can contribute to the development of a positive school culture.  Adults discussed the need for positive school climate initiatives, the different ways to organize and maintain this positive momentum and the latest research data in regards to student welfare and mental health.

College Application Workshop

Attention all college-bound seniors:
